Prayer is one of the easiest things to do and the hardest to master. When something crazy or horrible happens it seems like the first thing we do is call out to God. “Oh my God! God help me! God please…” or,“God, if you, then I will…” But what does prayer look like when we’re not in a crisis? Jesus showed his disciples how to prayer in everyday situations in what is known as the Lord’s Prayer. It goes like this:

Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed is your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread, and forgive us our sins as we forgive those who have sinned against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one.

In this simple prayer our needs aren’t even brought up until after we acknowledge who God is and asking for what He wants done to be done. This isn’t how we usually pray, but Jesus shows us that prayer might not be all about us and our needs. As much as we don’t like it, the universe doesn’t revolve around us, it revolves around God. If we prayed with this in mind, our prayers would be different and so would our outlook on the day. Maybe we see how God has placed us where we are not for our well being, but for the people around us and for God’s glory.

Read Matthew 6:5-15 to learn more about how we should pray. Feel free to post questions or comments bellow and check out orphancitychurch.org for more info about this ministry. Peace!
